Dropping onto a steep slope from a cornice is one of the coolest looking and most adrenaline-pumping moves you can make on the mountain. And as with most adventures, risk is met with reward—in this case fast turns, great snow and the admiration of onlookers awed by your poise and skill. Botch the drop-in or the landing, though, and you—and your prestige—might plummet. Here’s how to handle cornices like a pro.
