Kildow Grabs Third Straight Podium

December 3, 2006

LAKE LOUISE, ALBERTA - (USST News Bureau Release) - Lindsey Kildow (Vail, CO) conquered wind, snow and tricky visibility at Lake Louise once again Sunday, collecting her third World Cup top-2 finish in 48 hours as she was second to Austrian great Renate Goetschl in the first women's super G of the young season. Goetschl was timed in an unofficial 1:20.86 for the 39th win of her career with Kildow - who won the downhill Saturday after finishing second Friday in the opening DH - was timed in 1:21.73. Completing the podium was Canadian Kelly Vanderbeek (1:21.77).

In overcast, 10-degree weather, Kirsten Clark (Raymond, ME) was 19th and two other U.S. skiers were in the 20s - Libby Ludlow (Bellevue, WA) tied for 27th with U.S. super G champion Stacey Cook (Mammoth Mountain, CA) 29th on the Olympic Downhill run.

"Yeah, there's a comfort zone for me," said Kildow, who has won a downhill at Lake Louise each of the last three seasons; Sunday's podium was her second World Cup SG top-3 in the Canadian Rockies. "I did the same thing as (Saturday when she won) and just let my skis run. I'm confident here and I just didn't hold back.

"It was really flat light, and there was some pretty funky stuff with the wind and I lost some time on the top, but I think I skied well the rest of the way," Kildow said. "It was cloudy and snowing and lots of winds - pretty similar to Friday...and any time you're on the podium in conditions like this, it's good and you should be happy...and I am."

The women have a couple of days down time as International Ski Federation works on scheduling upcoming races in snow-starved Europe. Races at St. Moritz, Switzerland, scheduled for next week have been canceled but organizers are hopeful of hosting the downhill and super G set for Dec. 16-17 in Val d'Isere, France, where the men's races - planned for next weekend - have been scrubbed because of poor snow.
