Jay, VT Oct. 4--A snowstorm hit northern Vermont and northern New York state early Monday morning, painting the mountains white at elevations above 1,500-feet.
Jay Peak Ski Area, VT has reported between 12-14 inches of accumulation at the summit and 8-10 inches at the base. Sugarbush Resort also got a couple of inches.
"This will put everyone in the mood for the upcoming ski season," reported Jay Peak Communications Director, Chris Veillon.
The snow is expected to continue throughout the morning and into the afternoon. The forecast calls for cooler temperatures to continue through the week with more snow expected on Wednesday.
Snow is not typical for this time of year in the northern Vermont area, but it has happened before. "This is definitely a freak storm," continued Veillon. "It was great to wake up to a virtual whiteout this early in the season."
