Georgetown, CO. February 13, 2004--At noon on February 14, 2004, over 100 adventuresome couples will gather at a rustic mountain cabin high atop Loveland Ski Area for what may be the world's highest mass wedding ceremony. The event is open to those who wish to marry and for couples renewing their wedding vows. Those who pre-register for the event before February 11, 2004, are eligible to receive one free lift ticket with the purchase of one regular priced adult lift ticket on the day of the event.
Registration is free and couples wishing to be legally wed must have a marriage license. Participants must be at least 18 years old and be able to ski or snowboard down the hill after the ceremony.
"What began 13 years ago as a small gathering with only a few participants has grown into a major event attracting couples from around the nation who seek an incredibly unique wedding experience. It's quite a spectacle to see 200 people skiing and riding down the mountain in tuxedos and wedding dresses," explains Events/Promotions Manager, John Sellers.
Harry Heilmann, a Registered Minister with the Universal Life Church, will conduct the ceremony which starts at noon at the Ptarmigan Roost cabin at 11,800 feet atop Chair #2. For animal safety, Loveland asks that birdseed be used in lieu of rice. All registered couples will also be entered into a drawing to win a $300 gift certificate from JC Keepsake Diamonds, Avalanche and Nugget tickets from Fox Sports and various other prizes from KSMT Radio and Coors. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony in the Loveland Basin Lodge, catered by Einstein Brothers Bagels. Local favorites, The Red Ram and Two Brothers Deli will also contribute appetizers and deserts. Beverages will be provided by long time partners Coors and Pepsi. Cafiero Creative Photojournalism will be photographing the event and will have photos available for guests. Summer Thyme Designs will be decorating the reception and providing bouquets for interested brides. For additional information call 303-571-5580 ext. 141 or visit or www.skiloveland.com/wedding.
