Hawaii heat—and a pretty good tennis player—put American ski star in his place at sectional qualifier.

Looks like skiing needn’t worry about losing one of its brightest stars to the tennis circuit.

Bode Miller has long since proven himself one of the world’s best at racing. We’ve watched him take down NFL backs and track stars in the ABC Superstars competition (joining guys like Herschel Walker and OJ Simpson among past winners of the event). But his shot at a walk-on qualification for the U.S. Open wilted in the Hawaii heat Thursday.

Veterans will have their chance to ski with Bode Miller next week when the 2010 Olympic champion joins 375 injured soldiers at the 24th Annual Winter Sports Clinic in Snowmass Village.

“I'm looking forward to getting on the hill with these veterans who've made such sacrifices for all of us,” said Miller. “I bet they'll inspire me more than the other way around."

Bode Miller Withdraws
Opens the door for Lindsey: With five World Cup races this weekend, she can clinch the title of Winningest American Ever.

Lindsey Vonn's winning routine
Olympic gold- and bronze-medalist is poised to take her third straight women's overall World Cup title after tomorrow's downhill race in Germany.

Skiing's World Cup finals are starting this week in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, and you'll never guess who's the big favorite for the women's overall. Perhaps you've heard of her: 2010 Olympics gold- and bronze-medalist, already a two-in-a-row World Cup overall winner, has about 30-odd career World Cup wins... That's right, we're talking about a certain Ms. Lindsey Vonn.

With big endorsement money in play for athletes who bring home Olympic medals, there’s always a debate on how much a gold is actually worth. ABC News tackles this very question in a recent article about Winter Olympians' earning potential.

A ninth Olympic medal for the U.S. Ski Team was not to be as the top two U.S. contenders skied off the tricky course early in the first run.

The DNF list from the first run of the men's slalom event was half as long as the start list, causing many athletes and viewers to question the course setup.
