After years of enjoying one of America's great cult ski areas ("The best long cruisers and glade skiing in the Rockies," says one reader), the folks in Whitefish, Mont., are about to join the big time.
A Big Mountain summer covers so much territory it helps to survey it over a slice of fresh huckleberry pie from the Summit House on top of the ski area. Stellar views include the surrounding tumult of mountains and their wide array of horseback riding.
"Amazing terrain!!! Amazing snow!!! Amazing lack of crowds!!! Amazingly low prices!!!" enthuses one reader, who may have a stuck exclamation-point key on his computer. He also trumpets Big Mountain's only real downside: "Amazing vertigo-inducing fog!!!"
