KILLINGTON, Vt. (August 25, 2008) – http://www.killington.com/ target=_blank>Killington Resort, the epicenter of fall foliage viewing in New England, is once again offering aerial foliage viewing via the K-1 Gondola, plus mountain biking, hiking and special events to showcase the spectacular autumn colors throughout the Green Mountains of Vermont.
When white gives way to green, stow your skis, break out your other sticks and head to the Stratton Mountain Country Club. A six-year stop on the LPGA Tour, the club offers three nine-hole courses with pitched and narrow fairways.
How to improve a mountain view? Paint a wind-tossed lake into the foreground. Vermont and New York are lucky to have just that in Lake Champlain, a needle of blue stretching 100 miles south from the Canadian border.
Positioned as Vermont's first "heathland"-style course, Okemo Valley's 6,400-yard, par-70 layout, fully opened last summer, required the purchase of new land by the family-owned resort as well as the cannibalizing of the former nine-hole Fox Run course.
Interest in skiing's heritage is picking up. A half-dozen ski resort histories were published this past autumn. Utah and Vermont have both recently opened new ski museums at a cost of several million dollars.
