SKI Magazine's Feb. 2009 "Where Is It?" Contest: Win FREE Travel Gear

Look Familiar?

Identify the resort in this photo and you could enjoy hassle-free travel from here on out - at least when it comes to toting your gear - thanks to a family travel package from Spyder.

Cold Comfort

Popularity increases for ice hotels.

We've never been entirely sure what the appeal of an ice hotel is - what's so great about a frozen pillow? - but they keep cropping up. Now Iglu-Dorf has moved one step down the thermostat with its chain of igloo hotels in Switzerland, Germany, and Andorra. You, too, can stay in a "romantic igloo suite" - complete with expedition-grade sleeping bags and private jacuzzi. No word on whether the suite comes with a butler to chip the ice out when your tub freezes over.

Mental Fatigue? Stare At This.

Encouraging news for ski-porn addicts.

Next time your staff catches you reading SKI Magazine at the office, tell them you're engaging in "attention restoration therapy." According to a New York Times health blog, the keen concentration needed for complex mental tasks - like poring over spreadsheets to tease a profit out of 2009 - is known as "directed" attention. To stay sharp, your head needs downtime. One way to recharge your brain is to allow your "involuntary" attention - the kind you use when viewing beautiful natural scenes - to take over.

X Games Hit Aspen, Jan. 22-25

Get out your twin-tips and temporary tattoos: The X Games are hitting Aspen, Colorado again, January 22-25, 2009. This year, skip the snowmobiles for the demolition derby of Skier X (a.k.a. skiercross) – four to six skiers simultaneously careening down a motocross-like course of rollers, bumps, banks, and ridges.

The International Olympic Committee recently announced that the sport will be included in the 2010 Winter Games in Whistler, B.C.
