To tighten those turns and improve that stance, try SKI Magazine’s NASTAR racing.

Square your shoulders. Always look ahead. Drive your body forward. Skiing tips sound effortless on paper, but feel so tricky once you’re on the mountain, clipped in and moving downhill. The key to getting better, as with most sports, is repetition and practice to generate muscle memory. One way many strong skiers get better and hone technical skills is through racing. Stowe's Running of the Derby
The Stowe Derby began as a bet between two guys. Seventy years later, it’s one of Stowe’s signature winter events.

The Stowe Derby, in which competitors race from the heights of Mt. Mansfield to the charming village below, descending 2,600 vertical feet and covering some 12 miles of downhill and cross-crountry terrain, celebrates its 70th birthday this year.

NASTAR Eastern Championships to Hit Okemo Mountain

Four-time Olympian AJ Kitt will be at Okemo as competitors battle to qualify for Nastar Nationals in Aspen, CO.

Think you’re faster than Ted Ligety? Of course you don't. But if you want to get a sense of how much faster he is, jump in the NASTAR course at your local hill. Ted won’t be there. But he raced against a guy who raced against a guy who will be there.

Recently I got the following “compliment” from
a reader: “Your kids are lucky to have two crazy parents. My wife always says it takes one crazy parent to have a ski racer but two is ideal. Unfortunately, my wife isn’t crazy.”
