Utah Deals for President's Day Weekend

Prices plummet as snow totals climb at Utah ski resorts.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT - February 13, 2009 - A streak of winter storms has pummeled Utah ski and snowboard resorts creating epic conditions for President's Day snowriders. In addition to healthy helpings of The Greatest Snow on Earth, Utah resorts are offering exceptional discounts on spring skiing starting now throughout the remaining season. Recent "airfare wars" have lowered many fares in/out of Salt Lake City International Airport, less than an hour drive from 11 Utah ski resorts. There has never been a better time to take a ski trip to Utah than now.

Snow Jam: Sugarloaf's Reggae Fest

Sugarloaf’s Reggae Fest sets the season’s glorious finale to an infectious island beat.

“Sun is shining, the weather is sweet, yeah, make you wanna move your dancing feet...”

Understand this: Whether you want to dance or ski, the place you want to be is Reggae Fest, Sugarloaf’s annual spring bash.

On Skiing: A Vanishing Sport

A parent’s most valuable gift might be bridging the past to the future. What if that bridge melts away?

In April of 1983, with my buddy Stan Tener of the Snowmass ski patrol and photographer Del Mulkey, I skied the Haute Route from Chamonix toward Zermatt. For five days, we climbed steep couloirs, traversed high cols, and skinned up and cruised down long, undulating glaciers—60 miles of frozen highway. We did it on “pins.” In those days, this meant three-pin bindings, narrow “norpine” skis and leather telemark boots.
