The 10th. Vail's new mountain restaurant
Great skier cuisine—and they don’t overlook your kids.

Here’s a trend we like: Skiers can now enjoy as good a meal on-hill as off. That’s certainly the case at The 10th, Vail’s new on-mountain restaurant, located at Mid-Vail. The restaurant’s name, of course, is a tribute to the famous 10th Mountain Division, which fought in Italy in World War 11. The 10th’s ski troopers—many of whom, including Vail founder Pete Siebert, went on to establish the American ski industry—certainly would rather have pulled up a chair here than dig into their K-rations.

Vail Opens More Terrain

Vail Opens More Terrain
Get off the frontside: Vail drops the ropes on portions of Blue Sky Basin and the Back Bowls this weekend.

The snow gods answered the prayers of hundreds of Vail skiers this week, blanketing the mountain with a much-needed 13 inches of snow since Tuesday, with a chance of as much as another foot this weekend. The Sun Up and Orient Express lifts are churning today (Thursday), so skiers can start making tracks in Yonder and China bowls; Big Rock Park and the terrain off of Pete’s Express in Blue Sky Basin opens Friday. The word early this morning was that intense gusts in the area last night have made for windblown slopes, so use extra caution (and keep your rock skis on standby).
