An auction offering the sale of Intrawest assets, including Olympic venue Whistler, that was scheduled for today has been postponed

Some non-Olympic news coming out of Whistler, B.C. In case you hadn't heard, Whistler-Blackcomb is for sale; meanwhile Whistler's owner, Intrawest, is fighting to keep the resort. Intrawest owners Fortress Investment Group missed the final payment on a $1.4 billion loan last year, and its big-bank creditors started foreclosure proceedings against the group.

B.C.-based photographer presents a 24-hour timelapse photo series from the summit of Whistler Mountain. The results are simply awesome.

Up in the colder parts of the world, like the Arctic Circle, there aren't a whole lot of landmarks, no street signs or even old tree stumps to serve as landmarks or help guide travelers. So the natives long ago took to building stone landmarks or cairns called inukshuks.

British Columbians unhappy about the 2010 Olympics; Oregonians not so much

Turns out not everybody is looking forward to the 2010 Olympics, the Seattle Times reports. A host of Whistler locals (and some Vancouverites) are unhappy about road and school closures planned for the Games' duration, while ski-rental and gear shops worry that tourists will be too busy watching competitions to bother with actual skiing.
