Olympic double medal-winner Bode Miller heads a throng of veterans, World Junior Championships medalists and development-level skiers who will be competing in the Lake Tahoe area at the Chevy Truck U.S. Alpine Championships beginning this Thursday.
Julia Mancuso and Adam Cole made U.S. ski racing history Wednesday, becoming the first American racers to sweep an event at the World Juniors.
Julia Mancuso led US skiers with an 11th place finish in the World Juniors super G, but the day belonged to the Austrians, who took both men's and women's gold in the event.
Fraenzi Aufdenlaten of Switzerland took first place in the 2001 World Junior Championships women's GS, Jessica Kelley of Stowe, VT finished ninth.
For the first time in this year's World Junior Alpine Championships, an Austrian did not podium in an event. Instead, a German and two Italians stood atop the podium after the slalom on Feb. 9.
