FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VAIL MOUNTAIN SET TO OPEN SIX DAYS EARLIER DUE TO RECORD EARLY SEASON SNOWFALL

VAIL, Colo. -- Nov. 4, 2002 -- Vail Mountain's opening date has been moved up six days from the originally scheduled Nov. 22 to Nov. 16, due to recent snowfalls that have been well above average for this time of year, officials said today.

"This is the most snow that we have seen on Vail Mountain as of Nov. 1 in the ski area's 40-year history, according to our records," said Bill Jensen, chief operating officer of Vail Mountain. "We are thrilled to be able to offer our guests such a high-quality ski and snowboard experience in mid-November, well before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend."

On Nov. 16, the resort will open 762 acres of terrain -- 50 trails -- to skiers and snowboarders, accessed by six lifts, including Lifts 1, 2, 4, 8, 15 and the Eagle Bahn Gondola from Lionshead. Vail Mountain officials anticipate the opening of more lifts and ski terrain prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.

More than six feet of snow have fallen on Vail Mountain since September and nearly three of that in the past week alone, contributing to a 20-inch, natural settled base at mid-mountain with up to a foot of additional snow at higher mountain locations. On Oct. 31, 2002, the ski area exceeded its mid-mountain settled base record of 19 inches set on Nov. 1, 1996.

Skiers and riders at Vail can take advantage of several Thanksgiving and pre-Christmas holiday discounted packages, including four days of skiing and four nights of lodging for as low as $271 per person. This offer equates to less than $68 per person, per day for a one-day lift ticket and one night of accommodations. The early season rate is valid from Nov. 27 to Dec. 19, 2002 and is based upon quad occupancy in a two-bedroom condominium. For reservations call (800) 404-3535 or book online at www.vail.com.

Vail Resorts' other ski resorts also are set to open this month. Keystone opens this Friday, Nov. 8, Breckenridge on Nov. 15, Heavenly on Nov. 22 and Beaver Creek on Nov. 23, 2002.
