Snowbird Opens Saturday with Gad Valley Terrain

Snowbird, Utah November 15, 2006 (Press Release) — Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort's 35th season begins Saturday, Nov. 18, with skiing and riding on natural and man-made snow in Gad Valley. Snowbird will open at 9 a.m. with the Gadzoom, Mid-Gad and Wilbere chairlifts accessing beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain in Gad Valley.

"A 16-inch storm like the one that came through Tuesday is important to help build a base early in the season, said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. "If the snow keeps falling and the temperatures stay cool we anticipate having additional lifts and runs open by Thanksgiving.

Storms have dropped over three feet of snow since Nov. 9, enabling snowcats to begin grooming the mountain and the cold weather is allowing the resort to make snow. Snowbird received 41 inches of snow before Nov. 1, when official snow safety totals begin, and 40 inches have fallen since Nov. 1.

The all-day ticket price will be $54/day. Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Tram will be open to foot passengers only for scenic rides between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18-19. A foot passenger Tram ticket is $10.

Snowbird's website also contains the latest information on early-season lodging packages, weather forecasts and mountain cams.

The final touches are being put on North America's first ski area tunnel, the Peruvian Tunnel, and Snowbird's new high-speed quad chairlift, Peruvian Express. Both are scheduled to open as soon as mountain conditions allow. Snowbird, along with Little Cottonwood Canyon neighbor Alta, has been named the best resort in the country in SKIING magazine's rankings five years in a row.
