Loveland Powers Up Snow Guns

Georgetown, CO, Oct. 5, 2000--Loveland Ski Area resumed snowmaking efforts this morning following a brief warm spell after last Wednesday's initial operations. Both natural and man-made snowmaking should continue tonight as the temperature drops into the 20s.Several inches of natural snow have already fallen over the past week.

Loveland boosted snowmaking operations this season by installing electric power to the top of Chair #2 which will let the ski area open with more terrain than in previous years. The increased snowmaking comes in preparation for Loveland's first "Chevy Truck Super Series" Alpine ski race on Nov. 11-12. The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association sanctioned this event for future Olympians and U.S. Ski Team members who are preparing for the 2001 Winter Olympics.

"This fall we will again focus our efforts on being the first seasonal ski area in the U.S. to open," said Scott Fortner, Loveland Ski Area marketing director. "The honor of being chosen to host the Chevy Truck Super Series opener assures snowmaking efforts will become even more crucial in order to provide the best snow possible for the estimated 20 international teams expected to participate in the kick-off of this world class series," Fortner added.
