Summer Snow Hits Mammoth Mountain

Mammoth Lakes, CA, June 9--California may be the land of the endless summer, but it's also holding onto winter longer than most ski areas in the U.S. as a late season snowstorm blew through Mammoth Mountain Ski area Thursday.

The storm left four to six-inches of fresh snow on the slopes with flurries expected into the evening. Chair lifts Broadway Express and Facelift service top-to-bottom skiing on 25 percent of the mountain. Intermediate and advanced skiers can carve up the mountain until the June 19 closing date.

Despite a two to five-foot base on the open runs, Mammoth Mountain will transform into a mountain biking destination on June 23. Five months later on November 9 the ski season will begin again.

Mammoth Mountain will continue to sell a limited number of discount 2000-2001 season passes until July 4. At a 75 percent discount the pass sells for $375 (ages 19-64), $275 (ages 13-18), and $175 (ages 7-12 and 65 and over). For more pass information call 800-MAMMOTH.
