All Downhill: Details

The Stowe Derby, a Mt. Mansfield Ski Club event and the country's oldest nordic race, began in 1945 as a bet between two Stowe legends—Austrian ski instructor Sepp Ruschp and Norwegian cross-country ace Erling Strom. This year's running of the Derby, a 10-mile race descending 4,000 vertical feet from the top of Mt. Mansfield to Stowe village, takes place Feb. 22. It is open to all ages and abilities.
