Munich, Germany, Dec. 3--Hannes Marker, founder of the Marker binding company, died Monday at the age of 82. The longtime binding equipment innovator succumbed to cancer at his home in Munich.
Marker formed his company in 1952 to manufacture the Duplex binding, which became an instant worldwide success. A year later he introduced the Simplex toe to his binding line and it became the basis for the world's most popular binding system. Other cutting-edge Marker products include the turntable heel system and the M4 toe. Aside from his ski developments, Marker also worked on innovations for the in-line skating and windsurfing worlds.
