Whistler goes big in every department-even the length of its days. In summer, golfing, glacier skiing, getting gritty in the bike park, paddling down the River of Golden Dreams and socializing on a lively pub patio all fit easily into a day that lingers past 10 p.m.

Golfers have their choice of three championship courses. Snow fiends enjoy Whistler Mountain (even occasional powder days) until early June. From then until early August, skiers head to Blackcomb's Horstman Glacier, where mornings are reserved for gate-bashing, bumping and jib camps for all ages (yes, adults, too) and afternoons are open to all.

When summer finally arrives in late July, sightseers savor stunning high-alpine vistas from Whistler Mountain's Roundhouse, while hikers head up, down or simply away to alpine lakes, wildflower-filled meadows and mossy cedar forests. The resort's acclaimed mountain bike park delivers 4,800 feet of vertical, three levels of obstacles, plus a bikercross course. Meanwhile Whistler's five lakes and the grassy, barbecue-friendly parks that grace their shorelines are everyone's favorite summer hangout. Head to Green Lake for waterskiing or Alta Lake for sailing, windsurfing and canoeing.

Sound like a lot? We didn't touch on the trout fishing, rock climbing, horseback riding, mini-golf, whitewater rafting, abundant spas or hopping patio scene. Feeling tired? Just wait for the rain. When it comes, the new eight-plex means you can always go to the movies.
