Mount Sunapee 230 skiable acres; 1,510 vertical feet; 65 slopes and trails; 100 annual inches, 97 percent snowmaking; 10 lifts. Tickets: adults $56 weekends, $52 midweek, young adults (13-18) $48/$41; juniors (6-12) $36/$32.

Lodging The nearest lodging is the Best Western Sunapee Lake Lodge at the traffic circle ($99-$289 per night; 800-606-5253). Close, cozy inns include the Blue Goose ($95; 603-763-5519) and Backside Inn ($50; 603-863-5161).

Dining For a casual family steakhouse/salad-bar setup, hit One Mile West (603-863-7500), one mile west of the traffic circle. Dig in to wood-fired pizza at Bellissima in Newbury Harbor (603-763-3290).

Après-Ski For immediate gratification, find munchies and entertainment at Goosefeaturs Pub, upstairs in the Spruce Lodge. One Mile West (see above), home of the Lemster Lemonade, is more the locals' fun spot. Or settle into the north country's equivalent of Cheers, Peter Christian's Tavern in New London.

Don't Miss Sunapee Circle Store and Deli: Homemade pizzas and sandwiches for the road or a picnic lunch on the mountain.

Getting There From Boston (90 minutes) take I-89 to Exit 9 in New Hampshire. Turn right and follow Route 103 west for 16 miles to the Mount Sunapee traffic circle. From New York (4 1/2 hours), take I-91 to Exit 8 in Vermont; head east on Route 103 through Claremont and Newport; the traffic circle is on the right.

Info 603-763-2356 (general); 603-763-4020 (snow conditions);
