Bahrke Wins Silver in Dual Moguls

March 10, 2007
MADONNA DI CAMPILGIO, ITALY - (News Release) - Former Olympic medalist and World Cup champion Shannon Bahrke (Tahoe City, CA) shook off the frustration of narrowly missing a medal 24 hours earlier and collected the silver medal Saturday night in dual moguls, the last event of the 2007 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships.

Same day streaming video of the finals will be available on demand from WCSN.com at 10 p.m. ET.

"I'm lucky. I skied well and I had a good qualifying run, finishing second, so that gave me confidence going into finals," Bahrke said. "I used that confidence to ski the way I know I can ski.

"I'm really pleased with this medal."

Olympic and World Cup moguls champion Dale Begg-Smith of Australia won the men's duals gold medal with Guilbaut Colas of France in second place and Russia Rusian Sharifulin taking the bronze. On the women's side, it also was Olympic and World Cup moguls champ Jennifer Heil of Canada who won; she edged Bahrke for the gold with Austrian Margarita Marbler in third place.

All four U.S. women were in the top nine spots. After Bahrke, the 2002 Olympic silver medalist, then bronze medalist in duals at the 2003 World Championships and '03 World Cup champion, Jillian Vogtli (Ellicotville, NY) was sixth, Shelly Robertson (Reno, NV) seventh and Heather McPhie (Bozeman, MT) ninth. Sho Kashima (Zephyr Cove, NV) was seventh in the men's contest with David Digravio (Farmington, ME) 13th.
