Nicola’s doesn’t look like much from the outside outside, but inside the warm décor makes you feel like you‘re in Italy. Even though the owner and manager have a reputation for being rude, the wait staff is friendly, prompt and always available. The menu can be hit or miss, but stick with the Italian classics and you won’t be disappointed. The calamari fritti is a delicious appetizer and any of the pasta dishes are worth-while. The funghi boscoco—fresh mushrooms, sautéed in olive oil and chicken stock, with pine nuts, rosemary, Italian greens, and truffle oil over linguine—is especially delicious and reasonably priced in relation to everything else on the menu. Ask your server for the kitchen to go easy on the salt, they’ve been known to overdo it from time to time. For dessert, try the delicious baklava or anything with chocolate.
