Nita Lake Lodge

Come for the mountains, stay for the lakes

It’s a common story in Whistler: Visitors come for the mountains and stay for the lakes. But many skiers don’t even realize the valley’s five lakes exist. At Nita Lake Lodge, Whistler’s newest boutique hotel, guests can’t avoid the fact: The lake is steps away.

The new lodge is located two blocks from Whistler Mountain’s Creekside Gondola, in a quiet neighborhood a few miles south of Whistler Village. Half of the 77 suites offer mountain views. The other half, as well as the restaurant and an expansive bar, don’t just face the lake but seem to spill right into it.

Guestrooms—all suites—range from 530 to 1,000 square feet. Each features a king bed, floor-to-ceiling fireplace faced with basalt, galley kitchen, flatscreen TV, soaker tub and walls of windows. Many also have private porches.

Downstairs, the Lakeside Lounge is simultaneously dark and inviting, making it a nice spot for the over-30 set to gather with friends for a drink. At Jordan’s Crossing, British chef Julian Owen-Mold brings a fresh international sensibility to Pacific Northwest dining.

Nita Lake Lodge isn’t the well-coiffed Four Seasons—and isn’t trying to be. The luxury here is the pleasure of idle hours—perhaps the rarest commodity of all. And Nita Lake’s fine food, roomy spaces and soothing views make idling here even more inviting. $259–$599; 888-755-6482; nitalakelodge.com
