Lindsey Vonn 2010
Lindsey Vonn won female athlete of the year at the 2010 ESPYs, knocking out Serena Williams, basketball player Diana Taurasi, and others.Vonn’s success on the World Cup circuit over the 2009-10 season, and her dominant performances at the Vancouver Olympic games earned her the title of best female athlete, as well as best Olympic female athlete. The athletic version of the Grammys, the ESPYS are ESPN’s yearly recognition of excellence in sports performance. While it’s usually dominated by mainstream athletes—quarterback Drew Brees won male athlete of the year—this year, skiing, and winter sports in general gained some recognition.Freeskiers Bobby Brown and Jen Hudak were also nominated, for best male and female action sports athletes, respectively. Although neither of them took home top honors, winter sports dominated the scene: Shaun White snagged the award for best male action sports, and Australian snowboarder Torah Bright received the award for best female action sports.Check out Lindsey's acceptance speech.
