  • Getting There Several airlines, including Northwest (800-225-2525), have flights into Rapid City, where rental cars are available. Take Interstate 90 west about 40 miles to Sturgis, then take 14A south about 15 miles to Deadwood and follow signs.
  • Lodging There are more than 1,000 beds within 15 miles of the ski area. Call Black Hills Central Reservations (800-529-0105). The Barefoot Resort (800-424-0225) at Terry Peak has one- to four-bedroom condos. The Best Western Golden Hills (888-465-3080) in nearby Lead is popular with families because of its indoor pool.
  • Eats Actor Kevin Costner's restaurant, Jake's (800-999-6482), on Main Street in Deadwood, has atmosphere and food fit for, well, a star. For more moderately priced fare and great lunches, try the Stampmill (605-584-1984) in Lead.
  • Drinks Stop by the Dark Horse Saloon in the Nevada Gulch base lodge for the Sunday night steak fry where bartender Brandon Flanigan leads local musicians in a raucous open-mike performance. Or visit Lewie's Burgers and Brews on Highway 85 between Terry Peak and Lead.
  • Après-Ski Rent snowmobiles at the nearby Recreational Springs Resort (877-584-1228) and explore more than 300 miles of groomed trails in the Black Hills. No trip to the Black Hills is complete without visiting the Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse monuments, each about an 80-minute drive from Terry Peak.
