(All numbers are area code 518 unless otherwise noted.)
VITAL STATS Summit elevation: 3,100 feet. Vertical drop: 1,600 feet. Skiable acres: 262. Number of trails: 34. Number of lifts: seven (one high-speed quad). Annual snowfall: 110 inches. Snow report: 800-729-4766.
GETTING THERE From New York City (2 hours, 15 minutes): Take I-87 to Exit 21 at Catskill, then Route 23 west to Windham. From Boston (3 1/2 hours): Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) to Albany, N.Y., then I-87 south to Exit 21.
DINING OUT On a Budget: Garbarino's Restaurant and Pizzeria in Windham (734-3914) offers solid family-oriented dining; for adults, there's good pub grub at Brooklyn Bridge, just north of town (734-3742). Money Is No Object: Windham is blessed with a handful of outstanding ethnic restaurants, including Northern Italian fare at La Griglia (734-4499) and German/Swiss cooking at Chalet Fondue (734-4650).
SLEEPING IN Ski Windham operates the recently refurbished Windham Arms, which features spacious rooms and a number of amenities that will appeal to families, including a cozy skating rink in the rear. For the budget-conscious, there's the Kopper Kettle Motel (734-3575) and the Cave Mountain Motel (734-3161). For the upscale visitor, there's the century-old Victorian mansion Albergo Allegria (734-5560), Cuomo's Cove (800-734-5903) and Christman's Windham House (734-4230). For Central Reservations, call 800-754-9463.
DIVERSIONS If you're not into antiquing, you're probably out of luck, although the Windham Movie Theatre on Church Street offers first-run movies in a quonset-hut setting (734-6110). Antiques junkies might want to make the half-hour drive to Hudson, N.Y., while day-trippers can take in the sights an hour away in Albany, home to the grand New York State Capitol.
NIGHTSKIING Three chairs and several runs-including two expert trails-are open from 4-10 p.m. In addition to day and night passes, Ski Windham offers a combined day-night rate (8 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and a "twilight" pass (2:30-10 p.m.).
SPECIAL RATES The resort offers pre-season packages for both weekday and weekend visits; the best rates apply before the Christmas holiday and after mid-March.
