VAIL, Colo. Nov. 14, 2002 (AP)--Olympic silver medalist Bode Miller will have surgery Friday on his left knee but is expected to race a week later in the World Cups in Utah.
Miller, who won silver in the men's combined and men's giant slalom, hadan MRI exam Monday. He took about five runs Thursday morning atneighboring Beaver Creek resort, flew to New York City for a fund-raiserand was expected back by Friday afternoon for the surgery.
"Bode will miss the two Super Series slaloms at the Nature ValleyAlpine Cup at Loveland Basin this weekend as Dr. (Richard) Steadmanremoves a very minor piece of cartilage, which is causing him somesmall discomfort, but he'll be racing in Park City,'' said U.S. men's alpinehead coach Phil McNichol.
The men race giant slalom Nov. 22 at Park City Mountain Resort andslalom Nov. 24.
