Vienna, Austria, Sep. 14, 2001 (AP)--Olympic skiing champion Hermann Maier could be released today from the hospital where he is recovering from a career-threatening motorcycle accident.
``He's already doing so well that there's nothing standing in the way of him being moved early to a rehabilitation facility,'' Dr. Artur Trost, who operated on Maier, was quoted by Austrian news agency APA as saying Thursday.
Maier, a double Olympic champion and three-time winner of the World Cup overall title, broke his right leg and had seven hours of surgery after colliding with a car south of Salzburg on Aug. 24.
``After three weeks in the hospital, Hermann is obviously keen to head homeward,'' Trost said. ``The change of scene will do him good.''
