Vanular, Eliassen win U.S. Freeskiing Open Slopestyle

Online Exclusive

Seventeen-year-old Corey Vanular continued his impressive swing up the freeskiing ranks yesterday with a win in the 2006 U.S. Freeskiing Open slopestyle competition. Beating out field of 105 that included X Games medalists Charles Gagnier, Jon Olsson, and Simon Dumont, Vanular will compete in X Game X in Aspen, Colorado, next weekend.

On the women's side, Eilassen notched her second-consecutive slopestyle victory, pulling huge, technical tricks off the course's three big booters on the bottom of the course. Vail's own Claudia Bouvier finished fourth, behind Sarah Burke and up-and-comer Michelle Parker. With 30 women signing up to compete, it marked the first-ever year that the female slopestyle event required a qualifying round.
