Bormio, Italy, Mar. 13 (AP)--Preparing for the season-ending World Cup finals, France's Regine Cavagnoud dominated two downhill training runs Monday.
Cavagnoud, fifth in the downhill standings, is too far behind Germany's Regina Haeusl to win the downhill title. But she is among the favorites in Wednesday's downhill, where she will seek a fourth career win.
``The course is fast, just the way I like it,'' Cavagnoud said. ``I'm confident I can win.''
Haeusl, who has yet to win a downhill this season but has five second-place finishes, leads the downhill standings by 36 points over Renate Goetschl of Austria, the overall World Cup leader.
Haeusl was ninth and 11th in Monday's two training runs, more than 1.5 seconds behind Cavagnoud's winning time of 1 minute, 34.36 seconds. Goetschl finished 14th and 17th.
Tha Austrian holds a 223-point lead over teammate Michaela Dorfmeister in the overall and is virtually assured the title.
The men's training is Tuesday, with the race on Wednesday. The men's and women's super-Gs are Thursday, the giant slaloms Saturday and the slaloms Sunday.
