Kirkwood, CA (Kirkwood Press Release)—Over 75 inches of new snow in the past week has pushed Kirkwood's snowfall total for the season over 750 inches! Conditions are more reminiscent of February than they are April, with several feet of deep soft snow covering all elevations of the mountain. Due to the unusually deep snow pack, 200 — 325 inches, the terrain offers lines and opportunities never seen before. "We've never had a cornice like this here, says long time Kirkwood pass holder Greg Dexter, looking over the top of a 30 foot cornice on top of the mountain, "and did you see the snow storage pile at the base? It must be 60 feet high!
Weekend events include the Best of Kirkwood April 8, an evening filled with fabulous culinary cuisine, libations from local wineries and breweries, and a huge silent auction with items such as a trip to the San Juan mountains, a private weekend getaway in wine country complete with an exclusive vintner's luncheon, and a week's stay in a private residence in England.
The Sort of Famous Banked Slalom on April 9 is one of the favorite spring events in Tahoe — a modified slalom course is set in Snowsnake Gully, a natural ravine that offers a unique course that can only be run in Kirkwood.
