When summer heats up, so does the action in the mountains. Take your pick from this calendar of more than 50 festivals (divided by region, alphabetically and in chronological order). From classical to jazz to rock-n-roll, and from sporting events to culinary extravaganzas to art celebrations, there's truly something for every taste. If you don't see a listing for your favorite resort, chances are its schedule hadn't been released when we compiled this calendar. Just log on to specific resorts' websites to see what else is being offered.

FAYSTON, VT (SUGARBUSH), JUNE 23

BEN AND JERRY'S ONE WORLD, ONE HEART FESTIVAL
Good music. Fun games. And best of all, free ice cream. This 11th annual festival is sure to please. With a fee of only $10 per car for parking, it's affordable, too.

HUNTER MOUNTAIN, NY

MOUNTAIN CULTURE FESTIVAL, JULY 14
Features more than 40 craft exhibitors at about 30 farms. New additions to the festival include the Great Catskill Mountain Quilt Show, with an exhibit of more than 100 quilts made in the region, a demonstration of mountain biking, climbing and other summer mountain sports and a special section for children.

GERMAN ALPS FESTIVAL, AUG. 12-13
The tastes, sights and sounds of Bavaria come to Hunter. From yodelers to schuhplattlers to beer-hall bands, this festival offers a real taste of Germany and Austria. Entertainers from Europe include Edith Prock, Stettholz Musikanten, Yolanda and Nina & Mike, as well as American favorites.

INTERNATIONAL CELTIC FESTIVAL, AUG. 19 -20
This festival includes bagpipers, highland dancers, lots of beer and food, plus games and rides for children. Don't miss the bagpipe competition on Sunday, culminating in a Mass March of nearly 1,000 pipers and drummers marching down the mountain in unison.

SNOWSHOE BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL AND INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION, JUNE 29-30
This three-day event will feature some of the greatest bluegrass names in the country. Three days, three concerts and three genres of bluegrass music.

TASTE OF THE MOUNTAINS WINE AND JAZZ FESTIVAL, JULY 28-29
This event lets participants taste wines from all around the world and food from some of the greatest chefs in the East. A welcome reception on Friday night, the Grand Tasting & Jazz concert on Saturday and the Champagne Brunch on Sunday make this a full weekend.

VERMONT MOZART FESTIVAL, JULY 15-AUG. 5.
This festival brags some of the region's most talented musicians presented in one of Vermont's most scenic settings. Featuring performers such as the Vermont Mozart Orchestra, the Oriana singers under the instruction of William Metcalf and the New York Chamber Soloists. Pianist Menahem Pressler will perform with the orchestra for three concerts. Tickets range from $20-$25.

NORTH AMERICAN WIFE-CARRYING CHAMPIONSHIPS, JULY 21
Sunday River and the Mahoosuc Arts Council are again sponsoring the North American Wife-Carrying Championships. Registration is $35 per team and is limited to 99 teams.

EUROPEAN MOTORCYCLE MEET, JULY 28-29
A second annual event at Sunday River, attracting motorcyclists from all over New England. On Saturday, take a ride through the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Mahoosuc Mountains of Maine. Rides will form Saturday morning and will depart from the Grand Summit Resort Hotel. On Sunday, rides will start in the morning, then return for a barbecue at the Grand Summit Resort Hotel from 11a.m.-2 p.m.

BLUES FESTIVAL, JULY 13-15
Tremblant's biggest summer event boasts three main outdoor stages across town, along with six smaller stages inside bars. The festival also offers great local food. Free.
