When summer heats up, so does the action in the mountains. Take your pick from this calendar of more than 50 festivals (divided by region, alphabetically and in chronological order). From classical to jazz to rock-n-roll, and from sporting events to culinary extravaganzas to art celebrations, there's truly something for every taste. If you don't see a listing for your favorite resort, chances are its schedule hadn't been released when we compiled this calendar. Just log on to specific resorts' websites to see what else is being offered.

LAKE TAHOE, CALIF.

VALHALLA RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL, JUNE 2-3 AND 9-10Step back in time to the year 1580 and experience Elizabethan England. Jousting, music, drama, juggling, period clothing, crafts and food all presented by characters in costume. Admission: adults $9, seniors $6 and children $4. Held in Richardson Woods, South Lake Tahoe.

150-MILE CELEBRATION, Sept. 21-23
After 20 years of work, the Tahoe Rim Trail, a 150-mile loop trail that runs along the ridges and mountaintops circling Lake Tahoe, will officially open in September. To celebrate, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association is hosting a three-day celebration that will include guided hikes, mountain bike tours, horseback rides, sternwheeler cruise and an evening reception. An official grand opening ceremony will take place September 22 on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.
