Golf is booming around Lake Tahoe and northern Nevada, and now Northstar-at-Tahoe gives summer guests a choice of playing two 18-hole courses¿its own, plus the new Coyote Moon Golf Course in nearby Truckee.
Players who have experienced the split personality of Northstar's championship course¿open meadows on the front nine, dense forest on the back¿will find the layout at Coyote a bit more forgiving. It's located above historic downtown Truckee, with wide, well-manicured fairways that meander through moderate tree cover and unique rock outcroppings. The course was recently acquired by East West Partners, the company that will develop the resort's village.
While golf is arguably the main attraction here, cycling isn't far behind. Northstar's mountain bike park is now the largest in Northern California, with more than 100 miles of lift-served trails, including five new options for freeriders and downhillers.
Got kids? Take them to the Adventure Park, which has an outdoor climbing wall and ropes course; the Swim & Racquet Club, with three pools and frequent tennis camps; or the horseback stables, offering guided tours and pony rides. At Minors' Camp, children 2-10 get supervised activities and lunch for the day. So when mom and dad sneak off to tee it up, they won't be missed. ¿Ken Castle
