Frontier Days in July feature bed races using old cots on wheels, theater performances, a crafts fair, barbecue and dance. MTV aired the rowdy festivities last year.

The Carson Peak Inn, an old-fashioned steak-and-seafood dinner house, has been a town favorite for as far back as anyone can remember. The Eagle's Landing at the recently opened Double Eagle Resort serves great steaks, salads and a light spa menu, complemented by spectacular Sierra views.

Locals' Favorite Hangouts
The Tiger Bar, a tavern-restaurant in the center of town, is the long-standing local pick. Trout Town Joe's, open only in summer, is a coffee shop where folks get together to play checkers and kibitz. For a big night out, locals head to Mammoth.
