The Clock Is Ticking
If you're planning on skiing during the winter holidays, but haven't booked your trip yet, it's time to start dialing. By early fall, many of the best properties at the resorts that get top honors in SKI's annual Top 60 Resort Guide are already reserved. At Deer Valley, Utah, for example, all the ski-in/ski-out condos have been claimed by September. And at Whistler/Blackcomb, B.C., about half of the 22,000 beds are typically booked. That's not to say it's too late to get a good deal. In fact, resorts know that it's difficult to plan far in advance, so they routinely offer affordable packages at this time of year. You can ski three days and stay three nights at Whistler between Dec. 22 and Jan. 6 for just $379 per person (based on double occupancy; 888-284-9999; Or go to Deer Valley during the same period, and get three nights' lodging for two adults and two children at the Park City Marriott and two days' skiing at Deer Valley for $370 per person (including round-trip transfers). Sound Advice
As if air travel isn't stressful enough, recent studies confirm a correlation between jet noise and fatigue and stress. Put on one of Bose's new QuietComfort headsets next time you fly, and you'll arrive at your destination relaxed. Designed to reproduce sound with high fidelity, it also dramatically reduces unwanted noise. $299; (800) 650-2673;
