When To Go If I-70 is deadlocked due to snow, accidents, volume or a combination thereof, escape to Eldora by taking exit 244 to the Peak to Peak Highway. It passes by the gambling towns of Black Hawk and Central City and is the scenic "back way" to Eldora.

Getting Better Eldora's Women's Wednesdays feature all-female instructors, four hours of skiing and a gourmet lunch. The program is so successful it's been expanded to Tuesdays.

Getting There Eldora is 21 miles (about 35 minutes) from Boulder and 47 miles (about an hour) from Denver.

Lodging Stay in Nederland (Best Western Lodge at Nederland, 800-279-9463) or pick from dozens of accommodations in Boulder, including the historic Hotel Boulderado (800-433-4344). Boulder is a bustling college town with an excellent pedestrian mall packed with restaurants and shops-and winter is slow season. Another option: Continue north out of Nederland on the Peak to Peak and check into either the Gold Lake Mountain Resort & Spa (303-459-3544) or Peaceful Valley Ranch (800-955-6343). Both offer lodging, dining and cross-country skiing.

Eats Try Whistler's Cafe, Laura's Bakery or Happy Trails in Nederland for breakfast. The Black Forest Restaurant opened just eight months ago in Nederland, but had served its trademark German and American cuisine in Black Hawk for more than four decades.

Drinks Get a true taste of Nederland at The Pioneer or the Wolf Tongue Brewery.

Après-Ski Check out happy hour on the deck at the Sundance Lodge and Café or look for good music at the Acoustic Coffee House.
