Perched on a high bench above Golden, B.C. in the Purcells, Kicking Horse is only three years old, but bro gossip is already calling it the next Whistler. With most of the mountain served by a gondola, the majority of runs require a top-to-bottom descent that will leave your thighs howling. (They oughta call it Charley Horse.) Along the way, choose from two cornice-lipped bowls, a couple dozen rock-ribbed chutes, and lower-mountain cruisers that seem to go on forever.

The Vitals

Top Elevation: 8,033 feet
Vertical Drop: 4,133 feet
Snowfall: 275 inches (8,033')
Skiable Acres: 2,600
Phone: 866-754-5425
Web: kickinghorseresort.com

Adrenaline:
From the gondola, hike 15 minutes skier's right to Terminator Ridge, where you'll find Glory Chute, a 1,500-foot funnel with a 200-centimeter-wide throat.

Accumulation:
With its big vertical drop, Kicking Horse can get heli-quality snow up top, heavy mush at the bottom, and everything else in between.

Après:
Head into Golden for Wing Night Thursdays at the Moberly Pub, brews and cues at The Mad Trapper, and "fresh meat Mondays" at the Roadhouse strip club.
