"Mandatory air was the only way to get into the run, but the two feet of powder that fell the night before helped the landing," says photographer Christian Pondella, who shot skier Eric Pollard dropping this 20-footer during the filming of Matchstick Productions' The Hit List (on tour now) in Krasnaya Polyana, Russia. The shot was taken on a sunny day, but, says Pondella, "Because the snow was so bright and the sun was behind us, the photo was front-lit, making the sky look almost black."
