Only ski patrollers and competitors in the annual North American Freeskiing Championships get to sample Kirkwood's cliff-riddled, avalanche-prone Cirque. The rest of us get to drool. Until the resort reverses its permanently-closed policy and opens up the 1,200-foot shot of exposed steepness to the public, the only way to experience this epic bowl is vicariously.

Oh no, you can RIDE IT. Just plan on being chased by a bunch of pass stealing ski patrolers who are pissed that you took up their powder. Stay high skiers left at the end of the funnel and duck through the trees. Turn your coat inside out and do not go back to chair two. Now get out there and show them what you are made of.
