Molehill of the Month: Camden Snow Bowl

Molehill of the Month: Camden Snow Bowl

Travel
posted: 11/14/2007

Ocean-view skiing? Sounds like a sales pitch, but the Camden Snow Bowl really does sit on the edge of Maine's Penobscot Bay. With 11 trails and three lifts dishing up 850 feet of waterfront vertical, the Snow Bowl has enough to keep you focused on the hill. If you're looking for laughs, hit it on the second weekend of February, during the National Toboggan Championships. If you're looking for a deal, show up between Tuesday and Friday, when you can ski from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for $20—less than you'll pay for your lobstah dinnah. —Nick Callanan

Must Ski: When storms roll in, chase powder down Lookout. The steep, winding lines on this narrow trail have been expanded into the bordering glades. Don't rush it. Lookout offers amazing vistas of Penobscot Bay. When the sky is dry, arc 'em down Mussel Ridge into Windjammer. You'll end your run at the classic A-frame lodge, where lunch is a mere click of the bindings away.

Local Wisdom: "The Snow Bowl is old-school, with the narrow trails and the T-bar that grabs you by the rear end. My wife says if the kids learn to ski there, they can ski anywhere. —Captain Mike McHenry, the Windjammer Angelique

Lift ticket: $30 ($20 on weekdays). Take the "Long Lunch Break and ski two hours for $12.
