$2M in Improvements for Holiday Valley

posted: 05/09/2008

Ellicottville, NY- Holiday Valley's President and General Manager, Dennis Eshbaugh announced today that the Ellicottville resort will be investing $2 million to make resort improvements for the 2008-2009 season. According to Eshbaugh, "The 2007-08 winter season was a success, with over 500,000 visitors and 124 days of skiing and riding. We experienced a record breaking season, with an especially strong February and March. Our entire staff worked hard to maintain great snow conditions and excellent customer service all season long. The payoff is that we can reinvest into the resort and continue to improve our product."

The list of improvements includes the purchase of two new groomers, improved snowmaking system efficiency and energy savings, slope and trail work, a new web site with e-commerce, construction of a picnic/wedding pavilion on Sugar Plum, a picnic shelter at Spruce Lake, a recycling center for the Clubhouse Chalet and the purchase of several new rails for the terrain parks. The Inn at Holiday Valley will receive several upgrades in the guest rooms and common areas. The Holiday Valley Tubing Company will be improving their snowmaking system, purchasing new tubes and installing an outdoor music system.

One of the new groomers is a "winch cat", which is used to groom the resort's steeper headwalls. The second groomer will join Holiday Valley's fleet of machines that resurface the slopes each night. Snowmaking improvements include replacement of 4" water lines with 6" lines on the Chute and other locations. The snowmaking pump house controls will be automated so that crews can efficiently control and balance all three pump houses from one location. Holiday Valley is performing slope and trail work this summer in preparation for a new high speed quad on Morning Star to be installed for the 2009-10 season. The Foxfire slope, home of the 42/79 Terrain Park, will be widened. Clean up work will be conducted in The Glades, located between Ego Alley and Champagne.

The 2000 square foot picnic/wedding pavilion on Sugar Plum will be an open air structure in the Holiday Valley architecture style. It will feature a stone base and beamed roof, charcoal grills and a gas fire pit. Guests can reserve the building for picnics and parties in the wintertime or weddings in the off season.

These projects, along with many others will be completed for the 2008-2009 winter season.

Construction of the Tamarack Club is also underway at Holiday Valley. This four star 78 unit hotel-condominium project is located adjacent to the Clubhouse Chalet base lodge and offers amenities such as ski-in, ski-out convenience, a year 'round pool and hot tub, a health club and spa, a restaurant, underground parking and conference facilities. The Tamarack Club is projected to be completed for the winter of 2009-10.
