The Northwest Update is brought to you weekly by Mark Elling, who lives in Bend, Oregon where he works as a bootfitter on the hill at Mt. Bachelor. Elling is a nationally published outdoor sports and travel writer who is the author of The All-Mountain Skier (McGraw-Hill). When not working or skiing at Mt. Bachelor, Elling can be found at Cat Ski Mt. Bailey in southern Oregon where he manages to guide just enough days each winter to earn a seat in the cat when it's off the hook.

The Utah update is brought to you by Jamie Preston. Jamie grew up in a ski family in Vermont where his parents ran a ski lodge. He skied Mad River, Stowe and Sugarbush a ton, but on a trip to Snowbird in the mid 90's he finally saw what true powder skiing was all about and became obsessed with fresh and deep snow. In 2002 he moved to Utah and now gets about 100 days a year - skiing both the resort and backcountry. He has heli skied extensively in BC and AK, and has been a tester for the Ski Magazine powder test for the last four seasons. And, he is still a lawyer, doing work for companies like Backcountry.com.
