SOUTH LAKE TAHOE , CA – October 16, 2008 – More than 150 members of the community came out to Sierra Resort on October 12, 2008 to help clean up the mountain on Keep Sierra Clean day. Resort organizers were pleasantly overwhelmed by the turnout of passionate skiers and riders.

“Lots of parents brought their children out for a day of giving back to their home mountain. I was really moved by the pride that these families have in Sierra Resort,” said Kevin Mitchell, Director of Ski & Snowboard School and organizer of Keep Sierra Clean day. “The sense of ownership that the participants showed today really proves that this is a local’s mountain.”

More than 1,820 pounds of trash were brought in off the slopes, including 3 snowboards, an ipod, a digital camera and a blackberry. Plastic bottles, cans, trail fencing and signs and even a steel winch cable were cleared from stream zones. Sierra Resort employees spend time during the summer cleaning up the base area and parking lots. But cleaning up the slopes is a job that takes many helping hands.

“We’re lucky to have such a loyal camaraderie of guests who care deeply enough about the environment to come up here on a weekend and help us clean it up, “ said John Rice, General Manager of Sierra Resort. “It’s important for skiers and riders to be good stewards of the environment, because they depend on it for their winter fun.”
