Northstar at Tahoe is hosting the Autumn Food and Wine Festival this Friday, September 10, through Sunday, September 12. The festival is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary, and celebrity and executive chefs from all across California and Nevada will be present, offering cooking demonstrations, tastings, cook offs, and more.
Tahoe City’s David Lutz, reigning champion and owner of the Evergreen Restaurant, will take on Chad Shrewsbury of Six Peaks Grille in Olympic City at Squaw in the Culinary Competition. Lutz’s cooking generally revolves around seasonal and local ingredients, while Shrewsbury focuses on food preparation, atmosphere, and creativity. The one hour, Iron Chef-style competition will ask the chefs to create a number of meals with one secret ingredient to be provided at the time of the event. Past ingredients have included mackinaw, lamb, and rabbit.
Other events include a grape stomp, sushi rolling class, a wine walk, and the Grand Tasting, where a number of local chefs with pair wine carefully with their selected dishes. An auction of the wines will follow. Most festival events, including the cooking classes, are free.
The festival is a fundraiser for the community Fund of North Lake Tahoe. Visit NorthStarAtTahoe.com for more information.
