St. Anton, Austria Jan. 31, 2001 (FIS)--Isolde Kostner of Italy had the fastest downhill training time in St. Anton, Austria, today.

The 25-year-old is one of the favourites for the World Championship downhill title. Standing up into a relaxed stance before she crossed the finish line, she clocked a time of one minute 35.62, on the Gertrud Gabl run.

Kostner has already stood on the podium at these World Championships; on Monday she gained a silver medal in the ladies super-G.

Despite a very precarious landing off a jump- where she looked like she may end in the splits - Selina Herreger of the Austrian team had the second fastest time of 1:35.88.

Teamate Tanja Schneider, who gave the Austrians their best placing of eighth in the ladies' super-G on Monday, came in third quickest on 1:35.96.

Another big favourite for the title, Austria's Renate Goetschl, was fourth fastest. Goetschl picked up the pace today after taking it easy during yesterday's first training run to give giving herself time to recover from the fall she suffered during the ladies' super-G race.

The ladies' super-G World Champion, Regine Cavagnoud, was sixth across the line in 1:36.21, just after Canada's Melanie Turgeon on 1:36.20.
