Killington Will Not Re-Open For Skiing and Snowboarding This Weekend

News

November 1, 2005
Killington, VT - (Press Release) - Killington Resort will not be opening for skiing and snowboarding this weekend due to lack of colder temperatures needed for producing machine-made snow.

"We need a little assistance from Mother Nature in terms of colder temperatures to allow us the opportunity to capitalize on Killington Resort's competitive advantage of elevation, an extensive snowmaking system, superior grooming and a dedicated staff to provide a quality quest experience, said Dave Rathbun, vice president of brand management for Killington Resort.

The weather forecast is calling for a cooling trend by Sunday that may allow Killington the opportunity to resume snowmaking operations and re-open with a quality experience, similar to what quests experienced this past weekend.

"The 29 inches of snow we received last week made for an incredible opening weekend at Killington Resort, Rathbun said. We were able to take advantage of two nights of colder temperatures last week to supplement the natural snowfall with man-made snow that resulted in outstanding skiing and snowboarding conditions. Combined with 40 open trails, four lifts and an early-season terrain park, we saw a number of smiling faces.

While last week's snowfall remains on the ground from mid-mountain and higher, the warm temperatures this week are affecting the conditions on the lower portion of the mountain. With colder temperatures in the forecast, Killington is ready to resume snowmaking operations as soon as temperatures fall.
