Forget the beach. A romantic ski getaway demonstrates the ultimate commitment-to both spouse and snow. But with so many great options, the question is where to go? We found 10 exceptional rooms in 10 wonderful and diverse lodges. (Rates are per night, double occupancy, for the specific rooms mentioned, in February. Multi-night packages are usually a better value.)

Alta Lodge, Alta, Utah
Don't look for heart-shaped tubs and fluffy robes. The Alta Lodge is for passionate powder hounds who appreciate a marriage of Bauhaus and college dorm. Get romantic in corner suite No. 212, with a king-size bed, wood-burning fireplace and private balcony. Reserve a table for two in the legendary family-style dining room. But eat early. Even honeymooners are up for first tracks here. Ardor at Alta runs $441, including full breakfast and dinner daily. 800-707-2582; altalodge.com.

Eagle's Eye Suites, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, B.C.
There are just two Eagle's Eye Suites, set in a stunning rock, timber and glass building atop Kicking Horse at nearly 8,000 feet. Both provide stunning views of three mountain ranges and exclusive first-tracks privileges with your private instructor. Your suite has a soaker tub, balcony and valet service, and includes breakfast, dinner and champagne. Other perks: lift tickets and use of a VIP gondola with leather interior and sound system. The tab for Canadian cocooning is $968 (U.S.). 250-439-5400; kickinghorseresort.com.

Inn at the Round Barn, Waitsfield, Vt.
Waitsfield is quintessentially Vermont, so it's no surprise to find the postcard-perfect Inn at the Round Barn here, set on a 19th-century farm. What you might not expect are the 60-foot indoor lap pool and a greenhouse filled with bougainvillaea and hibiscus. Virtually all of the rooms whisper "honeymoon," but the Joslin Room, with its king-size canopy bed, whirlpool tub and steam shower, is undoubtedly the ideal romantic sanctuary. Mad River Glen and Sugarbush are minutes away, and the inn offers cross-country skiing and snowshoe tours on the grounds. Green Mountain honeymooning runs $240-$265, including breakfast. 802-496-2276; theroundbarn.com.

Pan Pacific Lodge Whistler, Whistler B.C.
At this Canadian castle in Whistler Village, go for a one-bedroom, mountain-view suite like No. 819. It has a gas fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, a soaker tub and Aveda amenities. This amorous aerie is designed for hanging out in plush robes and catching sunsets through floor-to-ceiling windows. If you can bear to leave your room, two monstrous mountains beckon, as does the al fresco deck, with its outdoor pool, two hot tubs and steam room. The price of passion runs $392 (U.S.). 800-327-8585; panpac.com.

Rainbow Ranch, Big Sky, Mont.
Rainbow Ranch is the perfect union of rustic getaway and high-end pampering. There's an outdoor whirlpool with fireplace, and a wine cellar with a Wine Spectator Award-winning list. Down comforters, lodgepole beds, river-rock fireplaces and jacuzzi tubs are what you'll find in intimate rooms such as the Mountain Lion. Three nights with continental breakfast, a pair of two-day lift tickets and transfers to and from the Big Sky Mountain Resort, 10 minutes away, will run you $718 for two. 800-937-4132; rainbowranch.com.

Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch, Beaver Creek, Colo.
This is not your parents' Ritz-Carlton. Beaver Creek's new lodging star in Bachelor Gulch is more Yellowstone than Back Bay. Splurge on room No. 831, with a panoramic valley view and fireplace, and opt for the New Altitude package ($2,003). It includes a three-night stay at the Club Level, with five food-and-beverage presentations daily, an in-room champagne breakfast, two Altitude Adjustment massage treatments and a hot-air balloon ride. 800-241-3333; ritzcarlton.com.

St. Regis Aspen, Aspen, Colo.
By definition, an Aspen honeymoon is over-the-topp. The slopeside St. Regis takes you there, with complimentary airport transfers and a Ski Butler. Expect overstuffed leather chairs, marble bathrooms, terry-cloth robes and a bed that's buried in down. Ask for room No. 240, for its mountain view and a balcony. Celebrity sightings are not guaranteed, but if you see Salma Hayek, Kate Hudson or Lyle Lovett lingering by the lobby fire, relax, don't stare. Your brush with fame runs $725 a night. 888-625-5144; stregisaspen.com.

Snake River Lodge, Jackson, Wyo.
Newlyweds are greeted with champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries at this ski-in/ski-out lodge. Suites boast romantic fireplaces and king-size beds covered with goose-down comforters. Go for room No. 335, a junior suite with a jetted tub. The honeymoon turn-down service features rose petals and candlelight. And while Jackson Hole's steeps are out your door, the lodge's new 17,000-square-foot spa provides good reason to stay indoors until the sun softens the snow. The cost of $325 includes breakfast. 800-445-4655; snakeriverlodge.com.

Sunnyside Resort and Lodge, Tahoe City, Calif.
If Sunnyside were any closer to the water, it would be floating on Lake Tahoe. Its setting and lodgepole interior are tastefully rustic, creating an intimate lodge-style resort that epitomizes Tahoe's laid-back North Shore. Request suite No. 39, with its king-size bed, river-rock fireplace and lakefront view. Alpine Meadows is five miles away; Northstar and Squaw are not much farther. Lakeside loving costs $140-$210 per night, including breakfast and afternoon tea. 800-822-2754; sunnysideresort.com.

Sunset Hill House, Sugar Hill, N.H.
Renovated and remodeled, this 1880 Victorian gem offers some of the most dramatic mountain views east of the Rockies. Honeymooners make a beeline for room No. 309, a spacious suite tucked under the mansard roof with a jacuzzi and king-size bed. Open the suite door, and Cannon Mountain is 10 minutes away, Loon and Bretton Woods just another 10 minutes distant. The $195 rate includes a three-course breakfast. 800-786-4455; sunsethillhouse.com.
