Bromley, Vermont: Rank 20 East, 1997

Within sight of Stratton and a short drive from Okemo, Bromley is a down-home, sensibly priced alternative to those regional giants. It skis much bigger than its 1,300 vertical feet: with a new high-speed quad halving the summit ride time to seven minutes, vert counts should improve substantially. A new quad has pumped ticket prices a few dollars ($25 on weekdays, $43 on weekends), but Bromley is still a comparative bargain, justifying its high Value ranking. Though not a terribly challenging hill, the only easy way down from the top is Runaround, a trail that until this year has been covered only by natural snow. Novices will be glad to know it has snowmaking now so everyone in a mixed-level group can ski the same lift regardless of conditions.

What's New High-speed quad to summit cuts the ride time in half.
Medals Gold Value; Silver Grooming, Service
High/Low Rank Value (8); Expert Terrain (61)
Don't Miss Going home with some Polo or Laura Ashley. High-end outlet shops are just 15 minutes away in the quaint town of Manchester.
Reader Remarks "Bromley is great for small children and works hard at all aspects of resort service." "Small and smaller."
